Successful bid £500,000 from the Safer Streets Fund

The West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Waheed Saleem, has led a successful bid to secure £549,040 from the Safer Streets Fund.
 
The money will be spent in the Hillfields area of Coventry and will go towards initiatives focused on reducing crime in the area by installing CCTV in the area, increasing the number of lamp posts to improve lighting and supplying residents with home security packs.
 
The funding will also be used to commission local community groups to engage with residents to reduce acquisitive  crime by distributing crime prevention literature across the area and offer home safety kits.
 
Local residents will also be encouraged to join the local Street Watch group which is an effective way of preventing crime.
 
The West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Waheed Saleem, said: “I am really pleased that we have been successful in securing over £500,000 to help improve community safety in the Hillfields area of Coventry.
 
“This funding will help introduce effective crime prevention measures in the community and educate people on what they can do to reduce acquisitive crime.
 
“As well as using the funding to invest in CCTV and improving street lighting in the area I would also encourage local residents to join Street Watch scheme. Throughout the West Midlands we have seen local residents take an active part in working to reduce crime by joining Street Watch.”
 
Deputy Leader for Coventry City Council, Abdul Khan, said: “This is great news for the residents of Hillfields. We are pleased that we have been successful in our bid for the safer streets funding.
 
“This extra funding stream will help us to make Hillfields a safer and more welcoming part of our City. I am sure residents will welcome the news and want to work in partnership to help us reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood.”
