The Police and Crime Commissioner has begun the latest search for the region’s unsung heroes.
Simon Foster is asking us all to nominate people we feel should be recognised for volunteering, acts of bravery, campaigning, dedication to their neighbourhood or working tirelessly to improve safety.
The Outstanding Citizen Awards are held yearly and are designed to recognise the uncelebrated achievements of people in the West Midlands.
They are designed to encourage good citizenship and to make the region a better and safer place to live and work.
The deadlines for nominations is 12th September 2022 and the awards event will take place on 8th October 2022
There are four awards categories up for grabs this year:
- Outstanding Citizen
- Outstanding Young Citizen (under 18s)
- Outstanding Community Project
- Outstanding Young Community Project (under 18s)
So, if you know a tireless community campaigner or a member of the public who went above and beyond, please nominate them now.
Nominations are welcome from anyone who knows of a volunteer, community member or community group that has shown consistent dedication to their neighbourhood, given up their own time to help others, contributed to community safety or helped to prevent and reduce crime and disorder.
“It’s so important that here in the West Midlands we recognise people who go above and beyond for the benefit of our people and communities”, said the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster.
“These people don’t do what they do for personal gain or promotion, but because they want to help and support others.
“If you know someone who has done something outstanding to help their neighbours or community, then please visit my website, fill out the form and let’s celebrate it.”
The awards are now in their 10th year. Previous winners include:
Outstanding Young Citizen Winner 2020: Louis Johnson for fundraising for many charities in the community
Outstanding Community Organisation Winner 2020: Jim Sweeney Short Soccer for their work on raising awareness on knife crime
