The Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, has reaffirmed his vow to do everything possible to reduce the number of people tragically and avoidably killed as a result of road traffic collisions across the West Midlands.
The PCC has issued a statement following three deaths in just five days in Birmingham.
PCC Simon Foster, who is also Chair of the West Midlands Road Safety Strategic Group, said: “My thoughts are with the victims, who have been tragically and avoidably killed and seriously injured in road traffic collisions, and their families.
“Preventing and tackling crime and anti-social behaviour on our roads, promoting road harm reduction and reducing the number of people tragically and avoidably killed and seriously injured on our roads, are top priorities.
“I am committed to constant and unremitting action, to work with all relevant partners, including Better Streets for Birmingham, locally, regionally and nationally, to ensure that we collectively do what it takes, to reduce the number of people, tragically and avoidably killed and seriously injured on our roads.
“That action includes robust enforcement by policing, but it also includes improved public transport, more active travel, lower traffic neighbourhoods, an improved regulatory environment and all of us being mindful of the duty of care, that we all owe to other road users.”
Road safety remains a key area and a top priority for the PCC. You can have your say on road safety via our Police & Crime Plan Public Consultation here as we ask the public what matters most to them and what they want Simon Foster and West Midlands Police to prioritise to prevent and tackle crime in the region across the next four years.
The Commissioner has recently written a long letter on road safety and has chosen to publish it here:
