The Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, has thanked officers and staff for their commitment, dedication and hard work this week, following scenes of disorder and violence across the country.
Simon Foster visited the force’s central command hub for a briefing on operational developments, but used the opportunity to acknowledge the difficult and challenging circumstances, that have been faced by officers and staff.
Officers have all moved to 12-hour shifts to meet national requirements and to continue to police the streets here in the West Midlands. This will continue across the weekend.
Officers have been needed at protests in Birmingham, Tamworth and Solihull, as well as having deployed across the country to Nottinghamshire, Merseyside and South Yorkshire.

The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, said: “This has been a difficult and challenging week for our officers, who have all worked long hours to keep us safe and secure.
“A small number have even been injured in the line of duty.
“I commend officers and staff for their commitment, dedication and hard work and I want to thank each and every one of them, for doing what it takes to keep us all safe and secure.
“Despite this difficult and challenging period, what’s clear is that police officers and staff will do all that is within their power, to prevent and tackle any violence and disorder and to keep people and communities safe and secure.”
Yesterday the PCC met with the Prime Minister to call for more to be done, to prevent social media platforms being used to spread the fake news, hateful content and misinformation, that has contributed to the violence and disorder.
