My thoughts are with Jaydon James’ family at this incredibly difficult time. For anyone, particularly someone so young, to lose their life in this way is heart-breaking. I hope that anyone with any information regarding this will help the police with their enquiries.
Across the country, but particularly in urban areas, we have seen an increase in violent crime and murders this year. That is why I have invested £2 million into tackling these problems. These include peer to peer mentoring for young people to help them make the right choices. I recently installed Coventry’s first weapon surrender bin and following my successful bid into the Home Office we have another £1.8 million pounds to spend on tackling violent crime.
That said, since 2010 West Midlands Police has lost £175 million and 2,000 police officers. I have consistently called on the government to properly fund our police service so we can put more officers on the street to help to stop horrific incidents like this from happening in future.
