In response to today’s announcement on the police officer pay award the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, said: “I cautiously welcome today’s news from the government that police officers will get a 2% pay rise this year.

“Whilst it lags behind inflation and is therefore still a real-terms wage cut it is at least a positive step forward for our hard working officers.

“However, I was disappointed to learn the government won’t be funding the pay rise and are instead asking West Midlands Police to find the money from an already stretched budget.”
