The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is searching for a Victims Advocate to take a leading role in ensuring that victims of crime and antisocial behaviour in the West Midlands get the support and care required to cope and recover. The Victims Advocate will join the PCC and Deputy PCC in forming the Accountability and Governance Board and will work on a part time basis (3 days a week) to support with discharging legislative duties and functions, by providing challenge, oversight and scrutiny across the criminal justice system, with a particular focus on the rights and welfare of Victims and compliance with the Victims Code.
The successful candidate will have a long and successful record in working to support victims of crime to cope and recover. You will need to be fully aware of national victims legislation and associated policing issues. You will be an expert on the West Midlands region and able to demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills. You will also need to demonstrate working independently to effectively influence the victims agenda regionally.
You will effectively utilise existing forums and platforms to amplify the voice of the victim, representing and providing expert advice to the PCC on how to best respond to the needs of victims of crime. You will be expected to directly engage with victims of crime, chair and lead on the continued development and success of a number of strategic partnership meetings.
Using your own initiative, you will lead and develop innovative communication and engagement strategies regionally and nationally to deliver victim related elements of the Police and Crime Plan. Effectively collaborating with the APCC, Ministry of Justice, Home Office, National Victims Commissioner, National Domestic Abuse Commissioner, regional Commissioners and other organisations in relation to victims issues.
