This is a politically restricted post

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner holds the West Midlands Police to account for its Policing outcomes and its value for money in the spending of its £0.75Bn budget. Our challenge is to ensure that both the Force and the OPCC spend all funds as efficiently and effectively as possible whilst maximising the value to frontline services. We are looking for a capable graduate or AAT qualified individual to join our team so that we can successfully support you to gain the CIPFA chartered accounting qualification.

Our finance apprenticeship programme will develop your leadership and expertise to provide sound financial management and advice that is critical to effective financial management in the public sector. The public sector is a huge employer and in most areas the NHS, local government and Policing are in the top 5 largest employers.  But although we expect you to have a strong commitment to the public sector, you should know that CIPFA partners with ICAEW and qualified CIPFA members can also apply for the ACA designation.

We expect you to be curious, capable, self-motivated and able to think both strategically and master the technical details of accounting. It’s a distinctive blend and most Chief Finance Officers in the public sector hold the CIPFA qualification.

What we need from you…

You will have graduated with a 2:1 in any discipline. Or you will have AAT Level 4.

You will have a real desire to work in the public sector and the ambition to make a difference to the organisation. Your ability to analyse information, problem solve and challenge the norm will be complemented by your ability to engage with people and build good working relationships.

What you’ll get in return…

You can expect to be consistently well supported within a structured programme of development with placements across a range of finance functions and service areas. You will be supported financially to achieve the public sector professional accountancy qualification (CIPFA) over a 3-year period. You will be able to work flexibly in a hybrid working environment.

The West Midlands is a vibrant and diverse part of the country and the Police and Crime Commissioner is committed to equality and diversity and welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of diversity and human rights, and a personal commitment to promoting diversity and racial equality.
