| An application is being made for Sec 60 as result of ongoing disorder in the locality of the student accommodation in the Gun Quarter including Baggot Street, City Centre, Birmingham. On Monday 30th October 2023 officers were deployed to the Gun Quarter where fireworks were discharged within the accommodation blocks with pockets of disorder of differing groups. On Tuesday 31st October 2023 from approximately 9:20pm fireworks were be used within the vicinity of Baggot street. This resulted in in numerous calls for service reference fireworks being used within the locality and members of the public being at risk. Neighbourhood officers have attended the location to be confronted with what was described as a firework battle between groups where the fireworks have been targeted at officers in their vehicle as well as a passing Police Dog Unit resulting in a withdrawal of the officers. Due to the increase in violence and criminality displayed by these individuals an overt use of police force was necessary. This resulted in several hours of officers coming under continued attack from fireworks. A number of individuals including officers and members of the public were injured as a result of this activity. |
