Reason for Authority (Brief Summary for Publication) |
We’ll continue to use stop and search powers in parts of Birmingham after we recovered a knife, knuckle duster and made several arrests last night. We’ve introduced the Section 60 powers following recent violence which has seen young people injured as a result of knives. This includes a 17-year-old boy who remains in hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed in Ladywood last Sunday. We don’t take the decision to use S60 lightly and only after careful consideration. These powers allow us to stop and search people we suspect may be involved in violence, or carrying weapons, without the need to have reasonable grounds. Our aim to help keep the everyone safe. Yesterday we found a discarded knife in parkland and seized a knuckle duster. We made two arrests for possessing and offensive weapon and robberies. |
