Nominations are now open to champion dedicated individuals or groups who continue to go above and beyond within their local communities in the West Midlands.

The West Midlands Police Excellence Awards will once again take place later this year as the force recognise officers, staff, volunteers and the public who have made a significant contribution to making the West Midlands a safer place to live, work and visit.

Last year, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, chose Sally Taylor to win the PCC’s Community Thank You Award.

Sally founded Bearwood Community Hub in 2019, a not-for-profit, community-led initiative that works to improve wellbeing, livelihoods and the local environment.

The Hub has continued to provide front-line, transformative and tailored services to the people of Bearwood and Smethwick.

Thanks to funding from the PCC, Sally’s Warm Wednesdays continue to be a real success, as Sally and her team of volunteers provide free tea and coffee, hot meals, a household shop and citizen’s advice surgeries.

Thousands continue to use the Bearwood Community Hub, thanks to Sally’s work to prevent hardship and loneliness. The chance to develop skills and to gain employment is also available.

PCC Simon Foster was pleased to name Sally as his ‘Thank You’ award winner last year and, this year, he wants you to put forward people or groups who deserve to be recognised.

He said: “The opportunity to nominate for this year’s Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Thank You Award is now open. It’s always an absolute pleasure and a real privilege to hear and see first-hand, the difference people and groups make within their local communities here in the West Midlands.

“If you know someone or a group, that devote time and resources to helping others in your local community, please get in touch. I know projects like last year’s winner Sally at the Bearwood Hub was – and remains – a real lifeline for so many.”

The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Thank You Award is given to an individual or group who have worked with the police, providing assistance through local initiatives, such as Street Watch or community groups.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, 19 July. The WMP Excellence Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 19 November at Tally Ho! In Birmingham.

To make a nomination, visit the WMP Excellence Awards website to complete an online form or print out a paper copy and post to the following address: West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Lloyd House, Colmore Circus Queensway, Birmingham B4 6NQ.
