Dudley Youth Commissioner creates a podcast to provide young people with an insight into the Criminal Justice System

One of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s Youth Commissioners for Dudley has created a podcast which focuses on giving young people a voice on policing issues that affect them.

The podcast Conversation 2020 aims to get more young people involved in discussing policing in their community and what they can do to influence policy.

Youth Commissioner for Dudley, Emerson Hanslip, has  already led a number of campaigns, including knife crime workshops in schools.

One of the topics that is discussed in the podcast is the possibility of communities using podcasting as a platform to talk about the service that they receive from the police and victims services. The discussion also focused on what benefits the podcasting could have on creating another link between the police and local communities.

The podcast is aimed at getting more young people engaged with policing in the West Midlands. It is a useful platform to encourage discussion and debate about what are the most important issues young people are facing.

Waheed Saleem, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands said: “This podcast is a great way for young people to discuss issues facing the West Midlands and policing in an accessible way.

“Podcasts are a good way to facilitate and encourage discussion and debate on issues that are of concern to people.

“Both myself and the Police and Crime Commissioner have committed to ensuring the views of young people are heard and podcasts like this are useful in understanding what concerns young people the most.”
