Ahead of Black Friday, the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner headed out on patrol with PCSOs as part of an ‘all out day’ to tackle crimes against businesses and to hear the concerns of retailers as the busy Christmas season begins.
The ‘all out day’ saw neighbourhood officers across the West Midlands spending their time speaking to businesses, giving crime reduction advice and highlighting the most effective ways to report incidents to West Midlands Police.
David Jamieson said: “At a time when we are seeing acquisitive crimes such as theft and robbery rising across the country it is vital that businesses are taking the right measures to protect their premises and websites from crime. The police are alert to these problems and are working with businesses to help them protect themselves.
“The ‘all out day’ is an opportunity for businesses right across the West Midlands to receive advice from the police on how to do this.
“This week when so many shoppers will descend on retailers for Black Friday, it is important that retailers know what action to take if they are a victim of crime.”
Businesses were made aware of the ability to now report crimes online and contact the police through live chat. They were also informed of a business crime reduction online session run by Mark Silvester from West Midlands Police.
Co-Chair of the West Midlands Business Crime Partnership, Waheed Saleem added: “This initiative is aimed at increasing confidence in the police within the business community. They are a vital part of the economy and we need to work closely.
“Businesses can suffer drastically from being the victims of crime. This leads to rising costs for everybody. The police working hand in hand with businesses will help us reduce crime and strengthen the economy.”
