The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, will hold his Strategic Policing and Crime Board virtually so he can continue to hold West Midlands Police to account throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that the Emergency Police and Crime Plan to support the effort of fighting coronavirus is delivered.
The Strategic Policing and Crime Board normally meet once a month at West Midlands Police HQ to scrutinise the force.
However, due to social distancing it is not possible to hold the meeting in person so the PCC will make use of technology and will hold the meeting virtually.
All members of the board will be in attendance as well as the Chief Constable Dave Thompson and members of his senior team.
The meeting will be live streamed on YouTube so the public can watch.
The main focus of the Strategic Policing and Crime Board this month will be how West Midlands Police will deliver the Emergency Police and Crime Plan which the PCC published.
The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, said: “Due to COVID-19 we are unable to hold the Strategic Policing and Crime Board in person, however, this does not mean that the Board should not meet.
“I am committed to making best use of the technology available to carry out my role as Police and Crime Commissioner and to continue to hold West Midlands Police to account, whilst still observing social distancing guidelines.
“Even in difficult time it is important that democratic institutions find a way to function, so that power can be held to account and transparency with the public maintained. It is not ideal but I hope virtual board meetings will help the public understand wat the police are doing during these challenging times.”
