Unsung heroes from across the West Midlands are being given their moment in the spotlight.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson has launched his Outstanding Citizens Awards 2017.

The ceremony will take place in July and the deadline for nominations is April 17.

There are three main awards up for grabs: Outstanding Citizen, Outstanding Young Citizen and Outstanding Community Project.

There will also be an award for the best project funded by the PCC's Active Citizens Fund.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said: "This is our chance to say 'thank you' to those people who work to make the West Midlands a better place.

"Whether they are a long-standing community campaigner, someone who runs a worthwhile project or simply a member of the public who stepped up when the time called for it, nominate them now and ensure they get the recognition they deserve.

"Last year's ceremony was wonderful, with so many inspiring and heart-warming stories shared - we will have to go a long way to top it but this year's ceremony is already shaping up to be bigger and better."

To nominate, fill in the form at the end of this page.

Last year's award winners were as follows:

Outstanding Act of Good Citizenship: Courageous Coventry carpenter  Mark Watts, who saved a man's life as he was being attacked with a knife at the side of the road.

Outstanding Citizen: 94-year-old volunteer  Mary Harvey from Kingstanding, who goes on daily litter picks, cleans dirty street signs, removes graffiti, fundraises for different charities and builds bridges within the community.

Outstanding Young Citizen: 15-year-old  Millie Dee from West Bromwich, who chased a burglar from her home as she protected her little sister.

Outstanding Community Project: Box Clever, the non-contact club run by former World Champion boxer Wayne Elcock in Solihull.
